A woman who pretended to be an employee of some former and incumbent lawmakers is facing criminal charges for allegedly defrauding investors of around P88 million.
Cristine Lagrisola was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation last week after receiving a complaint from 1-PACMAN party-list Rep. Mikee Romero.
The lawmaker said one of Lagrisola’s victims went to his office looking for her to discuss an investment scheme, but was surprised to learn that Lagrisola didn’t work there.
Calling cards indicating Lagrisola as an employee of former AASENSO party-list Rep. Teodoro Montoro were found in her possession when she was arrested.
Lagrisola is facing charges of estafa and violation of the law against the issuance of bouncing checks.
The NBI’s investigation showed that Lagrisola used the name of Romero and a number of former and incumbent lawmakers to convince people to invest in her supposed business, which involved lending to casino high rollers.
The 39-year-old also claimed to be a business partner of politikos, including Romero.
At least five victims who filed complaints with the NBI said Lagrisola collected around P88 million from them.
