President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday instructed the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to strictly enforce Covid-19 rules.
“I urge the DILG and the PNP to implement existing protocols with greater urgency and necessity. It is only by imposing the restrictions that we can fight the threat of delta variant,” Duterte said during a public address.
He asked the public not to be angry at police and military personnel enforcing public health guidelines as they are merely following his orders.
“The reason why the security forces of the government are very strict is not because they want to be strict and they want to make it hard for people to move. They are strict because they want to protect the country from a very contagious disease,” the President explained.
“So ‘wag kayong magalit sa pulis at sa military kasi utos ko yan. Hindi nila kasalanan kasi ‘pag hindi nila na-implement, ‘pag may nakita akong violations, sila ang bubulyawan ko. They are just doing their duty, so kindly understand that,” said Duterte.
