Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday (July 22) said the Cabinet should decide whether only fully vaccinated teachers will be allowed to conduct face-to-face classes.
Guevarra said this in response to the Twitter post of Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. who asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) for its opinion whether it is legal for schools to require teachers to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 once face-to-face classes are allowed.
“Anyway, tough policy questions like these will most likely be discussed at the cabinet meeting first,” Guevarra said.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has already announced that classes for the 2021-22 school year will begin on September 13.
However, the DeEd said no face-to-face classes have been allowed but remains a possibility but at a very limited scale.
