Pacquiao ignores Cusi’s attempts to settle rift, PDP exec says

By Ayo Di

Seen-zoned!

“Expelled” PDP-Laban Acting Secretary General Melvin Matibag said Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi tried reaching out to Senator Manny Pacquiao’s camp to settle their feud privately, but to no avail.

“Sila po ang ayaw makipag-usap,” said Matibag on Politiskoop.

Matibag said Cusi earlier sent letters to Pacquiao’s camp asking for a meeting to settle their issues but they were unanswered.

He said text messages were “seen zoned” as well.

Matibag, who was “expelled” as the party’s Acting Secretary General, said Pacquiao as well as Senator Koko Pimentel seem to prefer to go to the media to bash Cusi.

“Magaling po talaga sila sa PR eh… Siyempre alam niyo naman boxer, promoter. Magaling talaga mag-promote ng laban,” he said.

The feuding factions in PDP-Laban have raised questions on the party leaders’ legal standing.

Their disagreement stemmed from the two camps—one led by Pacquiao, the other by Cusi– pushing for different standard bearers for next year’s elections.

Pacquiao, currently Acting National President of the party, earlier called on party members to skip Saturday’s national assembly organized by Cusi upon the President’s directive.

But the assembly will push through. The agenda includes the election of new officers wherein Pacquiao is expected to be replaced.

Walang aalis!

Meanwhile, Matibag dismissed Pimentel’s statement saying Cusi should just leave PDP-Laban and form another party if his group insists on pushing for an “outsider” to be their presidential bet.

He said he is confident that PDP-Laban will come out to be a “stronger” party after Saturday’s national assembly.
“We will not allow that. We will not leave PDP-Laban,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s the constitution of the party that will prevail, not personalities,” he added.
