Villanueva: ‘No soldier should die from our own military hardware’

Senator Joel Villanueva on Sunday condoled with the families of the soldiers who died after a Philippine Air Force C-130 plane carrying more than 90 passengers crashed in Sulu.

While the investigation was ongoing, the senator said he trusts that Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana would look into the bottom of how the crahs occurred “before our air assets are allowed to
fly again.”

“No Filipino soldier, who lays his life for our country, should die from our own military hardware. God bless our AFP,” Villanueva said.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the soldiers who perished aboard the ill-fated C-130 that crashed in Patikul earlier today,” he said.

“May God’s miraculous hands mend the wounds of the survivors on the path to recovery,” Villanueva said.

“We trust that the circumstances that led to the crash will be thoroughly probed, as ordered by SND Lorenzana, before our air assets are allowed to fly again,” he said.

At least 45 people were killed after the plane crash on Sunday , the military reported.

According to the military, the incident happened at 11:30 a.m. in Barangay Bangkal in Patikul, Sulu.

The aircraft was carrying three pilots, five crew members, and soldiers traveling to Jolo, Sulu from Cagayan de Oro.

Based on initial information, the plane overshot the runway as it tried to land at the Jolo airport and crashed in the nearby town of Patikul.
