Over 600 inmates of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) have caught the COVID-19 virus since last year, Department of Justice (DOJ) records show.
DOJ Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay Villar said that as of August 27, a total of 645 inmates in BuCor’s prison facilities caught the virus.
They include 254 from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), Correctional Institution for Women, 330; Leyte Regional Prison (LRP), 31; San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF), 19; Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), 9; and Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF), 2.
Among those infected, there are two active cases at the CIW.
The DOJ records also revealed that there are a total of 369 prison personnel who got infected with the virus since last year including 35 active cases.
They include 219 from the NBP; CIW, 51; LRP, 31; IPPF, 8; SRPPF, 18; DPPF, 20; and SPPF, 22.
Despite the number of infections, the DOJ records also indicated that there have been a total 2,684 inmates and 1,090 BuCor personnel who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
