GDP growth not a proud moment; lax economic managers ‘alarming,’ says think tank

Economic think tank IBON Foundation said the country’s economic contraction was the most severe last year, which resulted in the loss of livelihood of many Filipinos.

“So kumbaga kung yung pagmamalaki na nakabawi ngayon ay dahil sa sobrang pinabagsak nung nakaraang taon parang di yun dapat ikinatutuwa, dapat ikinalulungkot pa nga yun eh,” IBON Foundation Executive Director Sonny Africa said in an interview on Abante’s Balitaan at Kumustahan.

Africa said it’s alarming that the government is trying to erase that one and a half year suffering that millions of people experienced.

He added that it’s also worrying that it would be used to cover up the flaws in the government’s pandemic response.

Sayang eh, marami pang magagawa,” he said.
