In commemoration of the 54th founding anniversary of ASEAN, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar stressed the role of the intergovernmental organization in accelerating economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region.
“Our forefathers’ collective vision of a shared socio-economic development, cultural and community cohesion, and regional peace and stability has never wavered, even with the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic that we have all had to endure,” Andanar in a statement said Sunday.
The Presidential Communications Operations Office chief said ASEAN has played a catalytic role on media, communications, and information exchanges concerning best practices in addressing, responding, and managing the impacts of Covid-19.
“As we continue in realizing the ASEAN Communication Master Plan 2018–2025, may this cooperation lead to greater intergovernmental and intermedia understanding and engagements within the region, to promote the dissemination of truthful information while ending the proliferation of fake news,” according to him.
Andanar also expressed confidence that through the various existing regional mechanisms, member states can overcome all difficulties and challenges that come their way, especially the current health crisis.
