Look who’s talking! Duterte accuses De Lima, Roxas of corruption during PNoy term

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday accused former Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas of corruption, citing past audit findings.

In his televised weekly address, Duterte said the Commission on Audit (COA) during the administration of former president Benigno Aquino III flagged the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) P617.44 million worth of unliquidated cash advances.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the Roxas leadership also accumulated over P7 billion worth of unliquidated fund transfers for various projects, the Chief Executive claimed.

“Itong COA ba sa previous administration, may audit findings sila. Iyong dumaang administrasyon, ibig sabihin kay Aquino. Mayroon dito ha agency, DOJ, under Secretary Leila De Lima, unliquidated [P617.44] million worth of cash advance in 2013. Itong kay (Health Secretary Francisco) Duque (III), bibili. Itong kay De Lima, nag-cash advance ng 617.44 million, unliquidated,” according to him.

“DILG, unliquidated 7 billion worth of fund transfers to various projects implemented under the term of former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas as of December 31, 2014… Ito perang kinuha talaga. Eh itong kay Duque magbili eh. Ito nag-cash advance, nagbale,” he added.

Duterte mentioned the past COA report as he defended Duque whose department was criticized after state auditors flagged “deficiencies” in its handling of Covid-19 pandemic funds.

The auditing agency found problems in how the DOH managed its P67.32-billion fund to address the health crisis.
