President Rodrigo Duterte won’t run for vice president should his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, decide to pursue a presidential bid in 2022, Malacañang said Wednesday.
“Lilinawin ko lang po na kagabi nagsalita ang presidente. Ang sabi niya, kung tatakbo si Mayor Sara Duterte, out siya at out din po si Senator Bong Go,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a radio interview with Erwin Tulfo.
Roque said “delicadeza” was the reason why the President won’t join the vice presidential race if Duterte-Carpio will run for president in next year’s polls.
“If I were to quote him, kasi sinulat ko po ang kanyang sinabi, ito ang kanyang sinabi: ‘Should Sara decide to run, Bong Go is out. For my part, dahil delicadeza, hindi pupuwede dalawa kami diyan. If she runs, out na rin ako’,” the spokesperson added.
On Tuesday, the PDP-Laban announced that Duterte agreed to run for vice president in the 2022 national elections.
Duterte-Carpio, on one hand, has yet to decide whether to run or not for the country’s highest elective post.
