Five PDP-Laban Senate bets ‘full vetted,’ get ‘clearance’ from Duterte — Nograles

The ruling PDP-Laban party is prepared to campaign for the initial five contenders in the senatorial elections next year if they accept the nomination.

The partial Senate slate of PDP-Laban include Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gringo Honasan, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo.

Speaking to “Politiskoop” program on August 25, 2021, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said President Duterte has given “clearance” or endorsed these five government officials who passed the screening process of the administration party.

These five individuals however have yet to formally accept the nomination as senatorial candidates of the PDP-Laban party. The PDP-Laban party is set to meet on Sept 8. to formalize the 2022 lineup.

Asked if the five officials have accepted their nomination, Nograles said it was best to ask them. He said the party officials merely endorsed the five potential senatorial bets.

“We will leave it to them. Bibigyan natin sila pagkakataon na magbigay ng kanilang komento o kanilang acceptance between now and September 8,” he said.

Once they accept party nomination, Nograles said the candidates are expected to file their certificates of candidates by October.
