President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Republic Act No. (RA) 11590 taxing Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs), Malacañang announced.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte signed RA 11590 or “An Act taxing Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations” on September 22, 2021.
“Bahagi ito sa ating mahigpit na pagre-regulate ng lahat na klase ng gambling at pagbabawal ng illegal na sugal,” Roque said during his televised briefing Thursday.
Under the new law, 60 percent of the total revenue collected from POGOs will be allocated for the implementation of the Universal Healthcare Act.
Twenty percent will be allocated to the Department of Health’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program while another 20 percent for the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, it added.
