President Rodrigo Duterte has accused Senator Dick Godon and the Philippine Red Cross of gouging the very people they were supposed to help especially during the pandemic.
In a briefing, Duterte said Red Cross chaired by Gordon had no qualms charging Filipinos desperate to be tested or vaccinated with astronomical prices.
“Red Cross is to be a non-profit organization. But amid the onset of pandemic, Red Cross, under you (Gordon), charged testing at an astronomical rate for around P4,000 to P4,700 a piece without any discount for senior citizens or persons with disabilities,” said Duterte,
“Now you are even having plans of selling vaccines and charging P3,500 per shot. Moderna vaccines cost US$51 or roughly about P2,500. What is the extra P1,000 for and for whom? Anong gamitin mo nito in the light of the pandemic situation in the Philippines?” he added.
Duterte pointed out that Gordon demanded high margins in the middle of a global pandemic even though Red Cross was supposed to be a non-profit organization.
