Lacson backs indoor dining, other perks for the vaccinated: ‘But first, make vaccines available to all’

A vaccination card may soon be the ticket to access and privilege in public and private spaces.

Senator Panfilo Lacson is backing moves to give extra motivation or carrots to Filipinos to get fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Vaccinated Filipinos could be incentives such as being allowed dining inside restaurants, according to Lacson.

The senator proposed the carrot and stick approach to vaccination and its perks after the government’s vaccination efforts remained sluggish due to limited supply. President Duterte has repeatedly appealed to Filipinos not to be choosy about the vaccine brand and get vaccinated as soon as the opportunity comes.

“Instead of forcing vaccines on people, why not make them force themselves to get inoculated? A policy of allowing only fully vaccinated customers to eat indoors, while limiting the unvaccinated to Al fresco dining could be an example. But first, make vaccines available to all,” Lacson tweeted on Sept. 29, 2021.

More than 20 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 since the inoculation campaign began last March. The government’s target is 70 million adult Filipinos before the end of the year.

The government plans to start the vaccination of the general population next month. Health workers, seniors, people with comorbidities, essential workers, and the indigents have been given priority in the inoculation drive.
