Leachon says Roque’s resignation is long overdue: ‘He’s irrelevant’

The government could probably do better without Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque.

A former government adviser Dr. Tony Leachon has called for the resignation of Roque, saying he is not only disrespectful but also incompetent.

Leachon issued the call after slamming Roque’s rude behavior when he threw a tantrum at physician leaders during a virtual IATF meeting last week.

“It’s time for Sec. Roque to go. It’s long overdue. There’s a long list of inept leaders now. Well – the rude behavior – I’m not surprised. He completely lost it,” the health reform advocate tweeted.

“He’s irrelevant. We have lost that little small trust by showing disrespectful behavior to our medical frontliners,” he said.

President Duterte’s spokesman blew his top and scolded doctors for opposing the government’s plan to ease the lockdown rules in Metro Manila. The doctors present in the meeting strongly suggested to keep the strict quarantine restrictions to curb surging COVID-19 cases.

Roque’s tantrum was caught on video, which was later released by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

He apologized for his behavior towards the doctors but was not sorry for his stance. His rant against the doctor triggered speculations it was a merely publicity stunt ahead of a rumored Senate bid in next year’s elections. The former party-list lawmaker has reportedly been lagging in preferred senatorial candidates.
