Another Marcos may rise to the presidency.
Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is mulling on running for president in the 2022 elections.
Marcos, speaking to local businessmen in an online forum, said he is considering the presidential bid instead of a vice presidential run after drawing support from many allies.
The former senator said he has actually fared better in presidential surveys than in the polls on vice presidential contenders.
“Kung titingnan mo ‘yung survey, I do better in presidential survey than vice presidential survey so yes, that’s a common sentiment that many of our supporters want me definitely to run for the presidency,” he said during the Anvil Business Club forum on Sept. 1, 2021.
“That’s why, that’s the reason why I’m even considering it because nandiyan talaga ‘yung support, mukha naman may taong may tutulong sa atin, may susuporta sa atin,” he said.
The former senator, who lost a VP bid in 2016 elections to then Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, admitted he was aware that some supporters have wanted him to pursue “presidency or nothing.”
“I take note of it and that’s why I feel that at least it’s a possibility that tt is certainly part of the plan. the presidency is not taken off the table by any means,” he said.
Marcos however has yet to finalize his political plans for 2022. The former senator continued to hold talks with various groups, including the two factions of the ruling PDP-Laban party.
With the constant development in the political scene, Marcos said everything was still “fluid,” “volatile” and “fast-moving.”
A decision on his political fate may be announced before the scheduled filing of certificate of candidacies next month. Marcos said he plans to use such time to ensure he would reach the “right decision.”
The Commission on Elections has set the filing of certificate of candidacies for the 2022 national and local elections from October 1 to 8, 2021.
