MalacaƱang on Tuesday lamented the slow deliveries of Western-made Covid-19 vaccines to the Philippines.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urged the national government to purchase more Western vaccines due to low acceptability of Chinese vaccines.
“On behalf of IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases), sino ba ang ayaw ng Western brand?” Roque asked.
“Ang problema lang talaga hindi natin nakukuha ang supply,” he said in a virtual briefing.
The secretary said the country has ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech but they only come at a trickle.
“We ordered 40 million. Pero nakita niyo naman, they come in trickles. Ang mga dumarating pa mga COVAX supply, mga donated, pero ang mga binibili natin talagang they been coming in trickles,” he explained.
