House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza is ready to compete against President Duterte and other rivals in the upcoming vice presidential elections.
Atienza filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Friday, October 1. He will be Senator Manny Pacquiao’s running mate in next year’s elections.
The boxer-turned-politiko, accompanied by wife Jinkee Pacquiao, also filed his presidential candidacy at the poll office.
Atienza, a known ally of Pacquiao, previously served as mayor of Manila.
October 1 is the first day of the filing period for aspirants of national and local posts. It will run until October 8, 2021.
