KAPA Community Ministry International Founder Joel Apolinario, who was arrested for alleged involvement in an investment scam, will be running for senator in the 2022 elections.
Apolinario filed his certificate of candidacy for senator through his representatives on Saturday (October 2) at the Sofitel Garden Tent in Pasay City.
The pastor’s spokesperson, Danilo Mangahas, claimed that Kapa members urged Apolinario to run.
“Nagbigay siya ng statement. Sumulat siya mula sa kulungan at tinatanggap niya ang mga hamon ng miyembro,” Mangahas told GMA News Online.
Apolinario has been detained since July 2020 following his arrest in connection with the Kapa investment scam.
An estimated five million people were believed to have been duped by Apolinario by promising a 30 percent monthly return on their “donations” for life.
President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Kapa to be shut down because of the scam in 2019.
