Defend diversity! IBP reiterates commitment to protecting IP rights

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) remains committed to protecting the rights of indigenous people in the country, IBP President Burt Estrada said.

“We continue to promote cultural diversity and the preservation of these Indigenous Cultural Communities as part of the life of the nation,” he said in a statement.

“We not only appreciate and acknowledge the contributions of our indigenous brothers and sisters but also commit to remind members of the importance of promoting their rights and collected well-being,” he stated.

Estrada, who himself is a datu of the Bukidnon Tagaloanon tribe, issued the statement as the country celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Month.

He reminded that this is being celebrated as declared by Proclamation No. 1906.

During this period, Estrada said the country should “celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions and histories of Indigenous Peoples.”
