President Rodrigo Duterte thanked the governments of Japan and the United States for donating millions of doses of Covid-19 vaccine to help accelerate the country’s inoculation drive.
Both countries donated around 2 million vaccine doses each, Duterte said during his pre-recorded “Talk to the People” address late Tuesday.
“We thank the Japanese government for their donation of close to 2 million doses of life-saving vaccines. Indeed, Japan is a friend closer than a brother, ready to help in times of need,” the Chief Executive said.
“Our thanks also to the United States for providing more than 2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines delivered through the facility called COVAX. This is the seventh shipment of vaccines from the US totalling approximately 18 million doses of vaccines. These vaccine deliveries demonstrate the strength of the US-Philippine alliance,” he added.
Duterte said their donation of vaccines will bring the Philippines closer to the goal of having a better Christmas.
