Imee Marcos turns ‘pink’ but not for Robredo

Senator Imee Marcos has joined the pink movement.

Marcos is encouraging women to be vigilant with their breast health in observance of the breast cancer awareness month this October.

The senator posted a “pink” message spreading awareness about breast cancer, including the importance of having regular breast exam, in her latest Facebook post.

“The observance of BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in the Philippines emphasizes the importance of regular self-breast examination and the early detection and treatment of breast cancer among Filipino women,” Marcos said on Facebook.

Marcos sought to promote women’s health after the breast cancer has become the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the country. The latest figure is based on the 2020 data from the Global Cancer Observatory.

Mammograms are considered best way to spot an early sign of breast cancer.

“In the 1990s, the high global incidence of the disease triggered the founding of a popular movement which was called Pink October,” she said.

The pink ribbon has long been synonymous with breast cancer awareness but recently the pink has been embraced by Vice President Leni Robredo as her political color this election season. Robredo is seeking the presidency as an independent candidate. Some groups are reportedly disappointed that Robredo’s camp has hijacked the pink color and politicize.
