Palace assures transparency in gov’t review of anti-drug ops: Walang tinatago ang DOJ

By Prince Golez

The Department of Justice has been transparent regarding its investigation into the killings under the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, Malacañang said.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque issued the statement after the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet urged the Philippine government to make public its drug war review findings.

“Wala pong tinatago ‘yung imbestigasyon ng DOJ,” Roque said in a television interview Friday.

“Kapag natapos po ang imbestigasyon at kinakailangang mag sampa ang kaso, isasapubliko po lahat niyan dahil lahat ng sinasampang records sa ating hukuman ay public documents,” he added.

At the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Bachelet asked the government to release the results of a DOJ-led panel on the violations by the police in anti-drug operations.

“The authorities should also involve the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant actors, including by sharing information on cases under investigation, to ensure an effective and victim-centered process,” she added.

In September, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said they had submitted two reports to President Rodrigo Duterte.
