Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte might run for vice president alongside former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to “upset” Senator Bong Go, who’s running for the same post, Special Envoy to China Mon Tulfo said Tuesday (October 26).
Citing “little birdies” who were in Cebu during Sara’s weekend visit, Tulfo said the mayor is reportedly thinking of mounting a vice presidential bid “to unsettle her father,” President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Several times during the party, Sara expressed abhorrence over Go’s close bonding with her father, according to one of my little birdies,” Tulfo said.
“Sara implied that even after getting elected senator, Bong Go continues to be “servile” – that’s not my choice of wording, but of my little birdies – to Digong,” he added.
Sara met with Marcos in Cebu on October 23, fueling speculation about a possible tandem. The mayor denied she’s running for president. However, she admitted to discussing with the former senator about the possible support that Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) will give to his candidacy.
Marcos has yet to announce his running mate, while Go is running alongside Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa under PDP-Laban.
Dela Rosa said he’s willing to shelve his presidential bid if Sara decides to run for president as the ruling party’s standard bearer.
