Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is shedding light on his reported objection to a senatorial aspirant joining Vice President Leni Robredo’s senatorial lineup.
In a latest tweet, Trillanes said the Makabayan coalition insisted on the inclusion of Neri Colmenares in Robredo’s senatorial slate but has not yet endorsed the veep’s presidential run.
Makabayan, a coalition of several progressive party-list groups, has not yet endorsed any candidate president and vice president in the 2022 elections. Colmenares, a former Bayan Muna party-list representative, was excluded from the 11-man senatorial lineup of Robredo. Trillanes, on the other hand, is among Robredo’s Senate picks.
“Makabayan wants Neri to be included in VP’s slate. But Makabayan has yet to endorse VP,” Trillanes tweeted.
Trillanes revealed that Makabayan actually endorsed the presidential bid of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno during the 1Sambayan consultations. The opposition coalition earlier
“In fact, in 1Sambayan, they did not vote for VP, and were pushing for Isko. They even tried to stop the 1Sambayan endorsement of Leni. Pwede ba, wag ako,” he added.
Colmenares earlier bared that it was Trillanes who opposed his inclusion in Robredo’s senatorial slate. He was supposedly not given a chance to meet with Robredo and discuss such concern.
