Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio is backing the senatorial bid of former Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar.
Mark, son of bilyonaryo Manny Villar, thanked Mayor Sara for her support in his latest Facebook post. The former Cabinet member posted a photo showing the mayor raising his hand during a recent meeting.
“Maraming salamat po sa suporta, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte! ,” Villar said on Facebook.
Villar will run for senator for the first time under the Nationalista Party. He is part of the senatorial slate fielded by the PDP-Laban faction endorsed by President Duterte. If he wins a Senate seat, he will be joining his mother Senator Cynthia Villar in the Upper House.
Mayor Sara heads the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago and is not a member of ruling PDP-Laban, where her father President Duterte serves as chairman. Giving value to the mayor’s growing political influence, the administration party has been trying to win her endorsement for its poll candidates in the 2022 elections.
