Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is backing the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo to put an end to the “destructive” reign of President Duterte and rebuild the country.

Trillanes urged voters to support Robredo’s candidacy after he filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on Friday, October 8, 2021. The former lawmaker is eyeing a return to the Senate after spending the past three years as a vocal government critic and a college professor.

“We must ensure that VP Leni will win as president to stop the destructive Duterte regime,” he said on Facebook.

“After this, we can now start the rebuilding process for country and that is the perfect role for future President Leni,” he added.

Robredo has joined the presidential contest as an independent candidate instead of running under the Liberal Party wing. The veep, which uses pink as new campaign color, filed her COC for president with Senator Francis Pangilinan as running mate.

Trillanes meantime will run for senator under the opposition slate led by Robredo.

The former senator vowed to continue hhis anti-corruption and governance reforms advocacy if elected senator. He has pledged to help the Robredo administration “in making those officials who abused their power, especially in this time of pandemic, accountable through the oversight functions of the Senate.”

Trillanes also vowed to push for measures on economic recovery and poverty alleviation, peace and order/security sector reforms, healthcare reforms/COVID-19 Response, and education reforms.
