MalacaƱang on Tuesday said it will leave it up to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) if it will heed Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso’s challenge to file charges against the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the overcrowding at the Manila Bay dolomite beach.
Domagoso earlier urged agencies of government under the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to charge DENR officials who allowed thousands of people to flock the controversial artificial beach over the weekend.
“Hinahayaan na po namin yan sa DILG at sa ating kapulisan kasama ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Maynila,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
For his part, DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said they “immediately” addressed the reported violation of social-distancing measures at the Manila Bay by implementing the “five minutes rule.”
“In every single time, dahil sa laki ng lugar na ‘to, it’s more than 1 hectare, hindi po lalagpas ng 400 yung tao. Then, since magkakaroon na ng pila sa labas, ang ginagawa namin, immediately pinapakiusapan namin after 5 minutes pagbigyan po natin yung next batch,” according to Antiporda.
