10 vie for Supreme Court seat

Ten candidates will be vying for a vacant seat at the Supreme Court (SC), the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) said.

SC Clerk of Courf and JBC Ex Officio Secretary Marife Lomibao-Cuevas announced that these candidates are Commission on Audit (COA) Chairperson Michael Aguinaldo, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner Anotonio Kho Jr., Court Administrator Raul Villanueva,  Finance Undersecretary Antonette Tionko, Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, Sandiganbayan Justice Geraldine Faith Econg, and Court of Appeals (CA) Justices Maria Filomena Singh,  Apolinario Bruselas Jr., Ramon Cruz, and Ronaldo Roberto Martin.

Cuevas said the public “may submit a sworn complaint, report, or opposition against any of the aforesaid candidates.”

She said Aguinaldo, Kho and Singh are set to face the JBC for an online public interview on Dec. 6.

The other candidates still have valid previous interviews.

President Rodrigo Duterte will pick one of the 10 candidates who will fill the seat that will be vacated by Justice Rosmari Carandang who will compulsorily retire this January 9.
