After Go’s exit from 2022 polls, Pimentel says Pacquiao will finish electoral bout and win

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III is confident of the victory of Senator Manny Pacquiao in the 2022 presidential elections.

After Senator Bong Go suddenly backed out of the presidential race, Pimentel wrote on Facebook that Pacquiao will finish the electoral bout and win.

The two senators belong to the PDP-Laban party faction, that has been in conflict with the wing backed by President Duterte. Amid the party infighting, Pacquiao is running for president under the Probinsiya Muna Development Initiative or Promdi, one of the political groups under the MP3 alliance.

“Senator Manny Pacquiao will definitely finish the electoral bout. And we expect to win,” Pimentel said.

The senator also insisted that his group is the legitimate PDP-Laban party amid a conflict with the faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

“Re issue of who is the legit PDP Laban, in my mind, there never was any issue. Alam ko kung sino ang lehitimong PDP Laban. Sino pa ba? Eh di yung 40 years na sa partido!” he said.

Go recently announced his withdrawal from the 2022 presidential polls, admitting he and his family were against it. The President’s aide admitted his agony over his unexpected presidential bid, saying his body, heart and mind was resisting it. He said he was only human feeling the pain and fatigue.

Go was supposed to run for vice president but changed his mind when the President’s daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio decided to seek higher public office. Duterte convinced his former assistant to seek the country’s top post instead.
