Motorcycle riders don’t always get fair treatment when passing road checkpoints.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has called for an end to the discrimination against motorcycle riders in checkpoints when he met with a group of riders last Tuesday.
Motorcyclists are given a hard time while the rich and powerful riding in luxury cars get through the checkpoints without any difficulty, according to the presidential contender.
“Madalas na nakararanas ng diskriminasyon ang ating mga rider, habang ang mga kamag-anak at kaibigan ng mga taong may mataas na posisyon, ang bilis na pinapalusot. May saludo pa!” he said during his talk before a thousand Angkas motorcycle riders in blue.
“Legal ang mga checkpoint pero dapat patas sa tao,” the mayor said.
Mayor Isko sought the end to the discriminatory practice amid concerns for the welfare of motorcyclists, including food delivery riders and couriers who are just trying to earn a living. He also reminded the riders to take extra precaution while riding.
“Ngayon pa lang, chain boy pa lang, agrabyado na kayo pero kapag naka-Mercedes Benz, yung mga kakampi nila, lusot? May saludo pa ‘yon! Parang naka drugs no? Ito ang tunay na buhay with all honesty,” he said.
“Kaya kayo, magsipag-ingat kayo. ‘Wag kayong magpapadala. Matatanso kayo,” he said.
