Good luck na lang! No Hong Kong arrivals ban in the Philippines

By Prince Golez

The national government is still allowing passengers from Hong Kong to enter the Philippines even though the Omicron Covid-19 variant, dubbed a “variant of concern” by the World Health Organization, has been detected in the Chinese territory.

On Sunday, Malacañang announced that Hong Kong has been placed in the “yellow” list and considered as “moderate risk” for Covid-19. It was previously under the “green” list of low-risk Covid-19 countries.

“Inbound international travellers coming from HongKong shall comply with the testing and quarantine protocols for ‘Yellow’ list countries,” acting presidential spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles told reporters.

All passengers coming from “yellow” countries/jurisdictions/territories, with an RT-PCR test done within 72 hours before departing from abroad, are required to undergo a facility-faced quarantine until they receive a negative PCR test taken either on third day or seventh day of quarantine, depending on their vaccination status.

They must also have a quarantine-hotel reservation for at least six days.

Earlier, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases banned the entry of passengers from Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswathini, Mozambique, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy due to the Omicron variant.
