Will PDP-Laban adopt ticket of Marcos-Duterte for 2022?

By Prince Golez

The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) wing headed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi will soon hold a “series of meetings” to discuss its plans after Senator Bong Go dropped out of the presidential race, according to Malacañang.

“May mga series of meeting na gaganapin in PDP-Laban as far as the EXECOM is concerned and as far as the National Council is concerned,” acting presidential spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles told ANC’s Headstart Wednesday.

Nograles said the party is awaiting the formal withdrawal of Go, who announced his decision not to push through with his presidential ambition in the May 2022 elections.

“But just the same, because an announcement has been made then the PDP-Laban has to meet and look at its options again. And then we’ll make a statement immediately after we’ve come to an agreement,” he added.

When asked if the PDP-Laban will support the tandem of former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Nograles said: “Let’s wait for a statement from PDP-Laban and a statement from the party because we have not yet made that decision.”

The PDP-Laban executive vice president, however, said the ruling party will no longer field another candidate for the country’s top office as this is “not possible anymore.”

“Not possible anymore. Wala nang substitution, so technically speaking, ang option namin is to adopt,” he concluded.
