Contrary to the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio said she agreed to become the running mate of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. because he has long experience in public service.
Carpio said she believes that Marcos has enough experience that he can use in leading the country.
“…Bakit si Bongbong Marcos ang pinili kong partner? Unang-una, he’s a former governor. Walang pwedeng kumuwestyon sa kanyang experience as governor. Parang ako, mayor. Local chief executive. Pangalawa, may experience siya sa House of Representatives. Naging Congressman siya. Pangatlo, naging senador siya. Pinili ninyo, binoto ninyo,” Carpio said.
Marcos was a former governor and representative of Ilocos Norte before becoming a senator.
“Naniniwala ako, and I confidently believe na ang kanyang experience: gobernador, congressman, senador — ito ang tutulong sa kanya para magampanan niya ang kanyang trabaho bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas,” she added.
Marcos and Carpio appeared to the public in a motorcade in Davao del Norte last Sunday, the first time since the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) forged an alliance.
Carpio is the chairperson and vice presidential candidate of Lakas-CMD while Marcos is the presidential candidate of PFP.
“Sa huli, iiwan ko sa inyo ang mensahe — sa mga tumatawag pa rin sa akin na President. Ang tinatakbuhan ko ay Vice President. Bakit? Because oftentimes in life, we find ourselves to be a leader. Pero sometimes, in our lives, we need to stand behind another leader,” Carpio added.
Carpio also urged their supporters to protect their votes in the upcoming elections.
“Hindi tayo dapat na huminto sa suporta. Tiyakin natin na boboto tayo at protektahan natin ang atin mga boto sa darating na Mayo 9 sa susunod na taon. Yan ang dapat nating gawin. Yan ang magagawa ng ating suporta kay Bongbong Marcos at Sara Duterte,” she said.
Earlier, President Duterte said that her daughter should have run for president. He also told the public that Marcos is a “weak leader.”
