Palace supports MTRCB order to remove ‘Pine Gap’ episodes over ‘very inaccurate’ Chinese map

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Tuesday said it supports the decision of the the Movie and Television Review and Classification (MTRCB) Board to pull out episodes of an Australian spy series, “Pine Gap” in the country over its inaccurate map of China’s territory.

“Suportado po ‘yan dahil ang MTRCB naman po ay under the Office of the President din mismo,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in his virtual presser.

Roque said it was the Department of Foreign Affairs that lodged a complaint, requesting Netflix to remove the said episodes from its streaming services in the Philippines.

“Ang Department Foreign Affairs naman po ang humingi sa MTRCB na ‘wag ipalabas ito sa ating bayan dahil ito nga po ay based on a very inaccurate myth and scope of the Chinese territory,” he added.

To recall, the 2016 ruling of the Arbitral Tribunal invalidated the nine-dash line and China’s claims over the South China Sea.

Several countries, including the Philippines, have protested the sweeping territorial claims of Beijing in the sea region.
