Quiboloy’s PH case not yet a hindrance to possible US extradition – Guevarra

The pending case against President Duterte’s spiritual adviser, Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy, won’t hinder yet with his extradition to the United States, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured.

Guevarra pointed this out after the complainant has filed before the Office of the Secretary (OSEC) a petition for review over the dismissal made by the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office of the complaint filed against Quiboloy last year.

“The pendency of the appeal before the OSEC is not an obstacle to extradition because there is no indictment in a Philippine court as yet,” Guevarra said.

“But extradition is not a simple process,” he added.

The lone female complainant accused Quiboloy of rape, child abuse, ill treatment under the Revised Penal Code (RPC), trafficking in persons through forced labor, and trafficking in persons through sexual abuse.

The US government might seek Quiboloy’s extradition after being indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and “sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion.”

“The DOJ and the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) will first evaluate and determine if the US case is covered by our extradition treaty,” Guevarra said.

“If in the affirmative, the DOJ will file a petition for extradition in a Philippine court,” he assured.

Should the court grant this and the judgment becomes final, Guevarra said “the respondent may then be physically turned over to the requesting state for further legal proceedings.”
