Senatorial aspirant Robin Padilla is saddened by the exodus of Filipino nurses for better jobs abroad but could not blame them for doing so.
Padilla wrote on Facebook that while it is heartbreaking to see local nurses leave the country, they have the right to seek employment abroad so they can take care better of their families.
Nurses are probably leaving the country since they feel left behind and don’t see a good future at home, he remarked.
Padilla said.
Padilla said the country’s dirty politics, especially politikos engaged in bickering while many people still live in poverty, might have fueled the nurses’ decision to work abroad.
“Patriotism and public service are politicized and created, hopelessness will reign in the hearts of heroes,” he said.
Many health workers have reportedly quit their jobs to look for employment abroad after feeling unappreciated by the government. The Duterte government earlier had drawn flak over the exodus of nurses and other health workers due to delayed distribution of benefits due them during the pandemic.
