Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has decided to decline again the nomination that he be considered as a justice candidate of the Supreme Court (SC).
In his letter to retired Sandiganbayan Justice Raoul Victorino dated July 4, Guevarra explained that the nomination came “at a time when my services as Secretary of the Department of Justice are most needed.”
“The government is facing a huge and unprecedented crisus occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is especially during these troubled times that law and order must be preserved and maintained,” Guevarra told Victorino.
“It is therefore with utmost regret that I respectfully decline your nomination,” he added.
The secretary wrote to Victorino after the retired magistrate nominated Guevarra for the second time as candidate for the SC.
Guevarra had also turned down the first nomination Victorino made.
The secretary expressed gratitude for the nomination which Guevarra admitted his “last chance to go for it.
“It is the dream of many lawyers to reach the pinnacle of their legal career by getting appointed to and serving in the highest court of the land,” Guevarra said.
