Unhappy with Teddyboy’s tweet: Malaysian foreign ministry to summon PH envoy over claim Sabah remark

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia over Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.’s tweet that Sabah is not part of Malaysia.

Locsin posted the tweet Monday (July 27) in response to the US Embassy’s statement on the aid given to Filipinos repatriated from Sabah, Malaysia, who are now staying in Zamboanga City and Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

“Sabah is not in Malaysia if you want to have anything to do with the Philippines,” the Foreign Affairs chief tweeted.

Responding to Locsin’s remark, Malaysian Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said: “This is an irresponsible statement that affects bilateral ties. @MalaysiaMFA will summon the Philippines Ambassador on Monday to explain. Sabah is, and will always be, part of Malaysia.”

The Philippines and Malaysia have conflicting territorial claims over Sabah, which is located on Borneo Island south of Mindanao.

The Sultan of Sulu’s heirs claim that Sabah has long been part of Philippine territory. The United Nations, however, said Sabah is part of Malaysia.
