Listen to warriors in the field: Locsin backs health workers’ call for ECQ in Metro Manila

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. has expressed support for the call of several medical organizations to place Metro Manila under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) for two weeks due to the continued rise in COVID-19 cases.

Locsin tweeted Sunday (August 2) that the government should listen to the health workers’ plea because they’re at the frontlines of battling the pandemic.

“We should listen to them because they are in the frontlines; rest of us including tiny opposition are just talking—let’s hope with masks and face shields on so as not to spread the virus of self-important ignorance. Comes a time when you listen to the warriors in the field,” he said.

Locsin posted the tweet accompanied by the link to an article of ABS-CBN News titled, “’Last 2 minutes’: Philippines losing #COVID19 battle, doctor warns.”

Several medical groups asked that Metro Manila be placed under ECQ again, citing the overflow of COVID-19 cases in hospitals, which have led to burnout and illness of healthcare workers.

President Rodrigo Duterte extended the general community quarantine in Metro Manila until August 15 despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the capital.
