The plea by health workers for a two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Mega Manila may be a message to the Department of Health’s leadership that changes need to be made, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Sunday.
Lacson said the call made by the health workers Saturday is “telling DOH that we are not moving towards the right direction.”
It might even indicate the head of the department needs to be replaced, he added in a post on his Twitter account.
“The health workers’ plea for a 2-week ECQ is simply telling DOH that we are not moving towards the right direction. If nothing is wrong with the rudder, maybe the ship captain needs immediate replacement,” he said (https://twitter.com/iampinglacson/status/1289768561695551488).
On Saturday, medical health care workers’ groups asked Malacanang to place Mega Manila under ECQ for at least two weeks, saying they were being overwhelmed by COVID-19 cases.
The Philippine College of Physicians sought a timeout of two weeks.
Lacson said the appeal is a valid request that Malacañang should consider seriously, adding human lives should be the top consideration if given the choice.
Also, Lacson said some adjustments can be made in the distribution of government subsidy to the most basic necessities of those who need it the most.
But he added this also stresses the significance of data management by concerned government agencies, “which after more than four months should have already been in place and readily implementable.”
