Palace: Government critics ‘sad’ because Duterte is ‘healthy, in control’

Malacañang on Wednesday asked the public to stop all the speculations regarding President Rodrigo Duterte’s health.

In an interview with CNN Philippines, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque reiterated that Duterte’s health remains in good condition.

“The public should no longer speculate because we have seen him. In evidence, what we refer to as object evidence is the best kind of object and the object evidence here is the President himself,” according to Roque.

“I think his appearance, his conduct, his actuation proved that he’s well and healthy. I understand that many of his detractors are sad that the President is fine but they’ll just have to wait until 2022 because the President is healthy and in control,” he added.

On Monday, Duterte quashed rumors that he fled to Singapore over the weekend for a medical treatment, saying that he was “under no obligation” to travel in secret.

Asked if the President gets tired of speculations over his health, Roque said: “Alam mo seasoned public servant na itong si Presidente. He’s abused that so many people are wishing him ill, but he’s confident that he still has the support of an overwhelming majority of our people.”
