Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III believes President Rodrigo Duterte made a good choice in appointing former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Dante Gierran as the new president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth).
“Director Gierran is a very good choice as Philhealth chief. Aside from a clean record, he has investigative skills that can crack the whip in ferreting out anomalies in the agency,” Sotto said in a statement Tuesday (September 1).
Duterte appointed Gierran to Philhealth after asking Ricardo Morales to resign as Philhealth chief amid parallel investigations on the alleged anomalies within the state health insurer.
In a briefing with Cabinet members attended by Gierran Monday night (August 31), Duterte said the former NBI chief should devote the next two years to fighting corruption.
“Maghanap kayo ng makukulong,” the President said.
Duterte ordered Gierran to remove all Philhealth regional vice presidents regardless of whether or not they are doing a good job.
