The 1-meter physical distancing in public transport will be observed until President Rodrigo Duterte decides on the policy Malacañang said, citing Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
In a Twitter post Thursday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the 1-meter physical distancing rule between commuters will continue unless Duterte approves the proposal to reduce the physical distance between commuters.
“Sec Tugade just manifested in IATF meeting that one meter rule in public transpo remains until [Duterte] decides on the matter,” he tweeted.
On Wednesday, Roque said Duterte will decide on the matter after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases could not reach an agreement on the physical distancing guidance in public transport vehicles.
“Si Presidente na po ang magde-decide. Ang aking ulit-ulit na sinasabi nakabase po ito sa siyensa at sa mga advice ng mga doctor,” the official said in an interview with state-run PTV-4.
“Ang mga doctor iba-iba rin po ang mga pananaw. Wala pong isang opinyon pagdating dito sa pagbawas ng isang dangkal lang naman na social distancing sa pampublikong mga transportation.”
Earlier, the ITAF approved a proposal that reduces the distance between commuters to 0.75 meters from 1 meter.
