Ain’t pork barrel: Palace defends P16-B budget for task force vs communism

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Monday defended the P16.4-billion budget proposal for the government’s anti-communist task force.

In a televised briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the budget allotted to the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict is a “valid expenditure.”

Roque was reacting to the claim of the Makabayan bloc of the House of Representatives that the anti-insurgency fund in the proposed 2021 national budget was “pork barrel.”

“Ang pagkakaintindi ko, lahat yan ay projects related to the anti-insurgency campaign ng ating gobyerno, and that’s a valid expenditure,” according to the Palace spokesman.

“In any case, hindi para sa Makabayan bloc alone na kwestyunin yan. Sana po makuha nila ang suporta ng mas maraming kasama nila sa Kongreso para po mawala ang ganyang entry,” he said.

“Pero, as of now, that is the budget proposal coming from the executive and we bow to the wisdom of Congress but not just to the Makabayan bloc,” he added.
