Haba ng hair! Duque ‘overwhelmed’ by Duterte’s refusal to let him resign

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III is “overwhelmed” by President Rodrigo Duterte’s continued support for him despite the allegations of corruption and incompetence he is facing.

“I am overwhelmed. Our president’s continued trust and support inspires us to work even harder. I would also like to thank my DOH family and their profound dedication, working tirelessly in spite of the risks from the pandemic,” Duque tweeted Tuesday (September 8).

Duque’s statement comes at the heels of Duterte’s refusal to let him go even after the Senate committee of the whole recommended the filing of criminal charges against him over the supposed anomalies in Philhealth.

“Secretary Duque, this is not the time for you to resign. I have heard stories about, you’re going to resign. I have full trust in you. Ang akin lang naman diyan ‘yung corruption,” Duterte told Duque in a televised briefing Monday night (September 7).

“There’s an investigation going on, let it be, if you’re not guilty of corruption…ang kalaban ko lang ho ‘yung corruption,” the President added.

Duque has denied involvement in any wrongdoing in Philhealth even as he sits as the ex-officio chairman of its board.
