Eat fresh and local.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri has encouraged the public to buy fruits and vegetables from farmers’ markets to support the local industry during these trying times.
Zubiri shared on Instagram his photo with two baskets full of local produce sourced from the farmers of Bukidnon, his hometown, while making a pitch for the buy local campaign.
“Getting my delicious local Vegetables from Northern Mindanao particularly from the mountain farmers of Impasugong Bukidnon,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Lets support our Farmers and buy Local!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭” the senator said.
The coronavirus pandemic has weakened the local economy as the lockdown measures crippled businesses and disrupted the supply chain or flow of goods from farms to market.
The country went into recession after the economy dropped by 16.5 percent in the second quarter of 2020.
The agriculture sector however still managed to grow driven by growth in crops and fisheries sector. Agriculture, forestry, and fishing increased with 1.6 percent growth.
