Outgoing US envoy Sung Kim conferred Order of Sikatuna

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte has conferred the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Datu (Grand Cross) to outgoing US Ambassador Sung Kim for his almost four years of service in the country.

“The President expressed appreciation for Ambassador Kim’s vital contributions in strengthening the alliance and partnership between the Philippines and the United States,” Malacañang said on Monday.

Kim, for his part, thanked Duterte for a “productive bilateral engagement” with the Philippines, emphasizing the US’ continuing commitment to support the country.

His “successful” tour of duty in the Philippines saw the historic return of the Balangiga Bells to the Diocese of Borongan in Eastern Samar in 2018.

The Order of Sikatuna is an order of diplomatic merit conferred upon individuals who have rendered exceptional and meritorious services to the Republic of the Philippines; upon diplomats, officials, and nationals of foreign states who have rendered conspicuous service in fostering, developing, and strengthening relations between their country and the Philippines; or upon personnel of the Department of Foreign Affairs, both in the home office and in the foreign service.
