Select areas lang! Ex-NEDA chief opposes NCR shift to MGCQ

By Prince Golez

Former Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia is not keen on placing the whole of Metro Manila under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) next month.

Majority of the mayors in Metro Manila earlier agreed to place the National Capital Region into MGCQ beginning March 1 to help the country recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

Hindi puwedeng lahat na lang, parang absolute,” Pernia said in an interview with Dobol B sa News TV Sunday.

“Meron pa ring mga high-risk areas… Hindi dapat magkaroon ng MGCQ. GCQ pa rin dapat. Yung mga low-risk towns or cities of Metro Manila puwede silang mag MGCQ, pero ang mga high-risk pa rin dapat manatili sa GCQ,” he added.

On Friday, Malacañang said the President may heed the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases and Metro Manila mayors to shift to the more permissive MGCQ by March.
