President Rodrigo Duterte will return to Manila from Davao City on Monday to witness the arrival of 1 million doses of CoronaVac vaccine in the country, his spokesman said.

Duterte flew home to Davao City to celebrate his 76th birthday today, March 28.

Roque said they have requested the National Task Force Against Covid-19 for an exemption to the mass gathering restrictions for the arrival of vaccines from China’s Sinovac Biotech.

“Sasalubong po rin siya sa Sinovac, at humingi na po kami ng exemption sa National Task Force kasi nga po doon sa rule na bawal ang mass gathering,” according to the secretary.

“Nag-apply na po ako personally for exemption ‘no. So we are processing the papers for the exemption para doon sa pagsalubong sa one million Sinovac on Monday,” he also said.

On Saturday, Duterte placed the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from March 29 to April 4 due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.

All mass gatherings are prohibited in ECQ areas.
